These teams played each other in the Coupe de France on Thursday with Lyon winning 2-1 via a late Houssem Aouar penalty in a close match. Nice haven’t lose consecutive matches at the Allianz Riviera since October 2018. Lyon have won eight and drawn one of their last nine games in all competitions but have lost three of their last four trips to Nice.
Lyon came out victorious on Thursday as they beat Nice in an incredibly exciting clash which saw Nice equalise in the 89th minute before Lyon’s Houssem Aouar slammed home the winning penalty just as the referee blew for full-time. This was yet another victory for Lyon and only furthered their tremendous form and bolstered their sky-high confidence.
Les Gones have now won eight and drawn one of their last nine matches in all competitions with their impressive attack being cited as their main strength.
They have scored a whopping 28 goals in this time with Moussa Dembélé a key part of this, scoring eight in his last seven matches.
However, it should be noted that without this blunderbuss attack, they would be heavily struggling as the defence has really not pulled its weight in recent weeks. In these last eight games Lyon have conceded ten goals. They have kept just three clean sheets in their last 19 games with two of these coming against lowly relegation battlers Nîmes and Toulouse as well as third-tier Bourg-en-Bresse.
As a result of this, Nice should still fancy their chances despite the defeat in midweek. Patrick Vieira’s side only lost by a late penalty and offered a lot to the match with six shots on target, two more than Lyon.
Le Gym also have a rather solid home record with their last consecutive defeats at the Allianz Riviera coming in October 2018. They had been unbeaten in the eight previous home matches to the Lyon defeat with 18 goals scored and five conceded along the way. Furthqermore, Nice have a solid record against Lyon at the Riviera with three wins in the four previous clashes with les Gones so they should be looking to return the status quo here.
