
KAMPALA – Uganda Premier League side Police FC have completed the signing of Tonny Mawejje.
The former Uganda Cranes midfielder has joined the Cops on a two year deal until July 2022.
His signing was confirmed by Police FC on Monday, July 06, via their official social media handles.
“We are pleased to unveil Tonny Mawejje as our first signing for the next season 2020/21. Mawejje penned down a 2 year contract with the club. Read a post on Police FC’s Twitter account.
Mawejje is indeed Police’s first signing this off season.
However, they also already secured head coach, Abdallah Mubiru to a new three year deal as the club seeks to improve their recent performances in both the league and cup which include a 13th place finish last season.
Before signing for Police, Mawejje has been a free agent since parting ways with Qatar club AL Arabi Sports Club last year.
It is his second home-coming to Police and he re-joins them after 14 years.
Mawejje is not new to the Uganda Premier League, having previously featured for Masaka Local Council FC, KCCA FC, Police FC and URA FC before turning out for a number of foreign clubs which include Golden Arrows (South Africa),IBV Vestmannaeyjar (Iceland), Throttur (Iceland), Haugesund (Norway), Valur (Iceland) KF Tirana (Albania) and AL-Arabi Sporting Club.
Mawejje made 83 appearances for the Uganda Cranes, scoring 8 goals with his last appearance coming in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.
