
Man United have in the past found it hard getting past Spanish opposition. From the famous Deportivo Lacoruna at the start of he 21st century, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia to Athletic Bilbao.
In this year’s Europa League semi finals, United will once again one up against Spanish side FC Sevilla.
Both sides did grind out 1-0 victories in their respective quarter final clashes.
United overcame Danish champions FC Copenhagen on Monday thanks to a Bruno Fernandes extra time penalty in Koln.
The Red Devils could have scores more but we’re denied by the up right twice and then both Marcus Rashford and Masoon Greenwood said efforts ruled out for offside.
However, their luck of control in the game will have many of their fans worried when they take on a silky Sevilla side.
For Sevilla, they lived it late to brash aside another English side-Wolves on Tuesday night.
After 86 minutes of no goals, Argentine striker Lucas Ocampos rose highest to glance an Ever Banega cross into the bottom corner.
Julien Lupiteguei’s side were dominant especially in the second half but had Wolves striker Raul Jimenez to thank for missing a first half penalty, otherwise things might have been different.
United and Sevilla will face off on Sunday in Koln for a place in the final.
In the other semi final, Ukranian champions Shakhtar Donetsk will face Serie A runners ups Inter Milan.
Shakhtar were magnificent in their semi final against FC Basel, powering past the Swiss side 4-1.
It was one way traffic from start to finish as Shakhtar took the lead inside two minutes via a Junior Moraes header. Taison then made it 2-0 on 22 minutes to ensure they led by a healthy score line at halftime.
Allan Patrick put the game to be on 75 minutes but their was still time for Dodo to add a fourth before Wolfswinkel scored Basel’s consolation deep into injury time.
Shakhtar’s semi final opponents Inter, beat Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 on Monday to book their last four slot.
Two goals inside the opening 21 minutes by Nicolo Barella and Romelu Lukaku put Inter on their way but Kai Hervetz pulled one instantly to keep the Germans in the game.
Despite the score line being close, Bayer never looked like they could find an equalizer and were on more than one occasion looking like they would concede again.
The Inter against Shakhtar semi will be played on Monday, August 17 at 10pm in Dusseldorf.
