
BOMBO – Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has on Thursday, September 10 released 13 players.
This is in an attempt to freshen up the Army side’s squad as they brace themselves for a return to the Uganda Premier League next season.
The announcement comes barely a month after UPDF FC confirmed the appointment of Kefa Kisala as their new head coach.
The release of these players was confirmed by UPDF’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ashraf Miiro.
“This is the nature of the game. Noted Miiro.
“Players go and new players come on board.
“We have released 13 players after a management meeting with the new head coach Kefa Kisala.
“We shall compensate the players handsomely in respect of the institution of UPDF.”
The players released include Fred Kalanzi, Sydney Ssenyonga, Junior Akena, Moses Kamya, Enock Omakira, Titus Lubega, Jose Maria Lubega, Davis Kamista, Godwin Kawaga, Abdul-Karim Kasule, Emma Egau, Abasi Kiberu and Roger Milla Ahumuz.
UPDF had a decent 2019/20 season in the Big League which prompted their promotion back to the top flight.
Some of the players who help them achieve promotion have been retained and they include Douglas Kisembo, Ronald Owinyi, Andrew Waiswa, Najib Tusaba, Christopher Kawuga, Denis Ssekitoleko, Robert Nakyenalire and Ezekiel Katende.
The Army side has so far signed six players and they are expected to continue adding to their fold.
The new players include Jesse Kajuba, Ronnie Kisekka, Ibrahim Wammanah, James Begisa, Gadafi Gadihno, Simon Mbaziira
