Bayern Munich vs Eintracht Frankfurt
Allianz Arena, Munich
Saturday, 24-10-2020 @4:30pm
After an unexpected loss against Hoffenheim, the Bavarians made a swift comeback to their earlier form, and now they are once again threatening to lay waste to whoever dares to stand in their way.
Just as how things were in the previous season – the defending champions are scoring goals in plenty, and it’s no secret that they are going after an unprecedented ‘repeat treble’. Judging their current form, and the struggles of some of the other top teams in the world, it’s a likely outcome.
This weekend, they are pitted against the Eagles, who had finished ninth in the table in 2019-20. Thus, the team could not even secure an entry into the qualifying stage of the Europa League.
On top of that, they are taking a trip to the Allianz Arena – possibly the hardest ground for any team in the world at present. And to further pile on, they also have an embarrassing h2h record against the title-holders.
The last time these two met, which was just three months back, Hans-Dieter Flick’s men recorded a 2-1 win. They had also recorded wins in eight of the former ten clashes. They had registered 30 of the preceding 35 overall wins. Since 2000, the guests have won just once at this stadium. The hosts had scored a total of 35 goals from the preceding eleven encounters here.
RB Leipzig vs Hertha Berlin
Red Bull Arena, Leipzig
Saturday, 24-10-2020 @4:30pm
The Red Bulls are one of the best teams in the competition – and they have been so for the past few years. They definitely had one of their best ever seasons in 2019-20, as they finished third in the German top flight, and along with that they made a deep semi-final run into the Champions League.
It goes without saying that confidence is at an all-time high at their camp, and it really has been showing in recent fixtures. As of now, they occupy the first spot in the league table – even above Bayern Munich, and en route to the top-most spot, they have conceded a total of just two goals.
In addition, they have also posted a near-perfect record in the tournament, with a draw and wins in rest of the games.
Meanwhile, Die Alte Dame are one of the worst teams in the German top flight at the moment, and they expectedly are placed just above the relegation cut-off.
In fact, they have lost all but one of their games so far in the contest till now.
On top of all that, Julian Nagelsmann’s men have a superb h2h record against this opponent as well.
The Red Bulls had won six of the former eight games. They have a 100% unbeaten record against this opponent, barring a single loss three years back. Not only have they scored two or more goals in every single encounter so far, but they have also netted a total of 28 goals from the past eight match-ups combined. The latest win at this stadium saw a scoreline of 5-0, in favor of the hosts.
Union Berlin vs Freiburg
Stadion An Dar Alten Forsterei, Berlin
Saturday, 24-10-2020 @4:30pm
The Iron Ones have made a positive start to their campaign this season. They did lose their opening game against Augsburg, but ever since they have remained unbeaten, and in the process even secured a draw against Borussia Monchengladbach.
The Breisgau Brazilians too have similar stats to show in 2020-21, and they have had some tough match-ups along the way as well. They have had to take on the likes of Wolfsburg, Dortmund in this early phase of the campaign itself.
Still, either team has done reasonably well so far, and will approach this match-up with an intention to make the most of it.
The latest clash had ended in a 3-1 win for Christian Streich’s men, at home. Six of the former seven encounters had three or more goals. At this venue, not once have the hosts failed to score in a league fixture. In the past four years, only once have a match-up ended without goals from both teams.
Mainz 05 vs Borussia Monchengladbach
OPEL Arena, Mainz
Saturday, 24-10-2020 @4:30pm
The 05ers are the worst team in the competition at the moment, and they deservedly are placed dead last in the table. They have so far lost all of their matches in the league, and are the only squad yet to post a point on the board.
Going on, they had also narrowly avoided relegation the last season – as they finished just two spots above the cut-off.
Meanwhile, the Foals have been one of the best teams in the German top flight for the past several years, and they had even secured a fourth-place finish in 2019-20, and thus an entry into the Champions League.
They have also lost just once in the Bundesliga in 2020-21, and that had come against Dortmund – the best team in the country after the Bavarians.
And to top it all off, Marco Rose’s men have a great h2h record against this opponent as well.
The last time these two locked horns, the Foals recorded a 3-1 win. The game had taken place this year itself. They are on a four-game winning run against this opponent. They had also registered 11 of the preceding 15 overall wins. At this stadium, the guests had won four of the preceding five clashes. The hosts have scored a total of just one goal from the former four encounters at this ground.
Borussia Dortmund vs Schalke O4
Signa Iduna Park, Dortmund
Saturday, 24-10-2020 @7:30pm
The Miners have been the worst team in the competition along with Mainz this season, and the misery of Manuel Baum’s men have been going on for the past few years. Earlier they used to be a contender for the European spots from the German top flight, and their fall from grace has simply been pathetic.
They had avoided relegation the last season by a buffer of just eight points, and continuing that run of form, they are still searching for their first win in the 2020-21 Bundesliga season.
In fact, they had lost all but one of their matches so far, and this sole game was against Union Berlin – one of the weakest teams in the league.
And to pile on even more, the Miners are pitted against none other that Der BVB this weekend. Not only are Lucien Favre’s men one of the best teams in the world, but they are the only roadblock that stops Bayern Munich from making the Bundesliga a farmers’ league.
The latest encounter ended in a 4-0 win for Der BVB at home. They had recorded eight of the former thirteen match-ups. The hosts had scored a total of 16 goals from the last six encounters at this stadium. Since 2012, only once have the guests won at this stadium.
