KAMPALA – SC Villa has endured a trying period in the last few years.
From ownership issues to lack of players to narrowly surviving relegation, the 16-time record league winners have seen their status in Ugandan football humbled.
Efforts to curb all this saw an interim committee was formed in July 2016, to try and stabilize Villa and it has indeed executed its role.
Led by club legend, Eng. William Nkemba, the Jogoos upset the odds last season to finish 3rd on the Uganda Premier League standings.
On Wednesday, October 14, the club through the interim Chariman, availed to the press what lies ahead in terms of fan registration, presidential elections and forming of the congress.
“I am glade to be part of a committee that has gone an extra mile to try and stabilize SC Villa. Nkemba noted at a press conference at Sheraton hotel.
“In the 2018/19 season, we ensured that we set up a team that would participate in the league. It was not easy as most of the players had left and e lacked the basic requirement.
“However, we participated in the league, narrowly surviving relegation but just taking part in the UPL that season was a big achievement, one that i can gladly name as my biggest as interim chairman of the club.
“The following season (2019/20) we embarked on improving sporting aspect as we wanted to compete and contribute players to national team. As a consequence, we finished 3rd, something that we can sit-down and pride in as a club.
For a while now, Villa has been embroiled in ownership issues.
The club that started as Nakivubo Boys in 1975, renamed Nakivubo Villa in 1979 and then later come to be known as SC Villa, is now going back to its roots so as to ensure a brighter future.
“We are going back to the roots and building from what was in 1975 so as we shape a decent tomorrow. Nkemba continued.
“SC Villa will know be owned by a members’ trust. The members shall be only those who subscribe annually at UGX 50,000.
“Members of the SC Villa members trust shall vote for president every four years and will also have access to all home games of the particular season.
Nkemba also added that these members who will be registered from October 30, will be the owners of Villa and have a say in all the club’s activities.
With that in place, Villa can now be described as a community club especially after the move was given a go ahead by the founding members.
