The Uganda U20 men’s football national team, the Cubs have stepped up preparations for the upcoming 2020 AFCON Zonal Qualifiers.
The team has been training since October 31, first at IUIU in Kabojja before moving to the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru.
After eight days of training, head coach Morley Byekwaso is now considering trimming the squad which currently comprises of 46 players.
“Out of the 46 summoned players, we are looking at reducing them to thirty (30) whom we will maintain in camp, noted Byekwaso as quoted by FUFA.com.
“We will then trim them further to the final 20 the required number for the tournament.
“We have been doing a lot of loading and intensity but now we shall lower a bit and reduce on the number training sessions as well.”
The squad currently features six (6) goalkeepers, 13 defenders, 10 midfielders and 16 strikers.
At the CECAFA tournament, Uganda is in Group B alongside South Sudan, Burundi, and Eritrea.
The tournament which will be hosted in Tanzania, starts on November 22 and will end on December 6.
