
KAMPALA – Media giants Nation Media Group (NMG) have made a big statement in the Uganda Sports industry.
The owners of National Television (NTV), Daily Monitor, KFM, Dembe FC and Spark TV appointed iconic Sports Journalist Ismail Dhakaba Kigongo as their head of Sports.
Dhakaba is a house-hold name and an individual that is idolized in the Sport fraternity in Uganda and is only make a return to the Media company he once worked for.
He worked as an analyst for both NTV (Omumuli Gw’emizanyo) and KFM plus Daily Monitor, where he was a writer.
Dhakaba left NMG and took over the lucrative role as head of communications at National Council of Sports (NCS), a role he ably executed between 2018-2019.
However, he took an interest in Politics and tried to stand in Bugweri District as a Member of Parliament (MP), a dream that ended at it’s initial stages.
The former Political-wannabe had however still retained his spot at KFM where he was featuring at the stations’ two-hour weekend-sports show from 11am to mid-day.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with PM Daily, Dhakaba appreciated that media has changed a lot but he is at NMG to help journalism evolve.
“The media landscape has changed a lot from when I first walked into a newsroom in 2007. He noted
“We need to evolve and my job is to help journalism evolve and also support the sports industry to do better today than yesterday.
“I hope I can make a contribution to the two things I am most passionate about – sports and journalism.”
Dhakaba who also previously worked at Channel 44 (2009-10), Radio One and Kaboozi FC (2007-16) started his new role on Monday, November 2020.
