Wakiso Giants FC vs Vipers SC
Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium, Wakiso
Saturday, 12-12-2020 @3pm
Vipers SC striker Shaban Muhammed will make his long-waited debut when the Venoms take on Wakiso Giants FC at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium on Saturday.
The striker has spent over a year injured since signing for the Kitende based side from Raja Casablanca in August 2019.
However, he is now fully recovered from knee surgery and will now finally make his bow for Vipers.
Rashid Toha who also spent a while on the sidelines is in line for his league debut. However, Umar Kyebatala is ruled out with a knee injury while Allan Kayiwa is yet to recover from fever and remains unavailable. Bobos Byaruhanga recovered from a minor knock and is also available for duty.
Wakiso Giants FC are also set to hand a debut to winger Pius Kaggwa who missed the opening two games due to injury. Kaggwa joined the Purple Sharks from Police FC in August but has been on the sidelines for close to three weeks.
The other good news for Douglas Bamweyana’s side is the availability of striker Viane Sekajugo.
Tom Matsiko, Ayub Kisalita and Hakim Ssenkumba are all still out due to lengthy injuries.
The game on Saturday will be Vipers’ first of the season having missed out on the two opening days due to their involvement in the CAF Champions League.
The Venoms are the defending champions of the Uganda Premier League and will be hoping for a winning start as they attempt to retain the title for the first time in history.
For Wakiso, they are eyeing for their first victory of the campaign after drawing both of their opening two games.
The Purple Sharks drew 0-0 with Police FC on match-day one before coming from two goals down to draw 2-2 at home to Kyetume FC on Tuesday.
Coming into the game without a victory means the game against Vipers is a must win according to Bamweyana.
“Our current position now renders this a must win encounter after failing to win any of our last two games. He said ahead of the game.
“We are very aware that we are playing the defending champions, a good side but we believe in ourselves and at home.
“We don’t have any doubts that we can get the result we want which is a win tomorrow although it’s going to be a big fight but one we believe we can come out victorious.”
This will be the third meeting between the two sides having faced off for the first and second time, last season.
The first meeting saw Vipers defeat Wakiso 1-0 at Kitende while the two sides drew 0-0 in the second clash, one that was headlined by Fahad Bayo’s controversial sending off.
