UPDF FC sent a clear message that they have indeed returned to the top tier of Ugandan football, on Tuesday.
The Army side who were promoted back to the Uganda Premier League last season, thumped Kitara FC 5-1 away from home.
Former Vipers SC forward Brian Kalumba was the star of the show as he netted four goals while his name-sake Kayanja scored the other goal.
Zakayo Kizito scored for the hosts in a match that they were clearly second-best.
As early as the first minute, UPDF went ahead through Kalumba inside the opening minute.
The forward who also scored on his debut last week, as UPDF defeated Busoga United FC 3-0, soon added a second on 10 minutes.
He completed his hat trick at the half hour mark, becoming the third player to do so already, this season after KCCA FC duo of Sam Ssenyonjo and Brian Aheebwa.
The visitors were handed a scare on 61 minutes as Zakayo pulled one back for Kitara but Kalumba scored once again, 9 minutes later to restore UPDF’s three-goal caution.
With just four minutes on the clock, former Bright Stars FC striker Kayanja put the icing on the cake with his side’s 5th of the day and his second of the season.
With a goal difference of +7, UPDF now sits second on the log with six points, level with leaders KCCA FC (+9).
For Kitara, they are in 12th with just a single point following their 1-1 draw with Kyetume on match-day one.
In their next fixtures, Kitara hosts Police FC on Saturday, the same day UPDF welcomes BUL to Bombo.
