NOUAKCHOTT – Uganda’s U-20 side – The Hippos ejected Burkina Faso 5-3 on post match penalties to storm the semis of the ongoing Afcon tournament in Mauritania.
The yongsters resisted any assault from their opponents in normal play, leading to a barren draw; even when the referees had called for extra 30 minutes.
When match officials signalled for penalties to decide the winner, goalkeeper, Jack Komakech was impressive as he stopped Burkina Faso player Yacoub Jiga.
Dangerman, Derrick Kakooza stepped to convert superbly, so was Joseph Bukenya, Najib Yiga, Ivan Bogere and Kenneth Ssemakula took the last shot to make it 5-3 as Uganda made history.
Earlier, Ghana had eliminated Cameroon 4-2 on penalties to reach the semifinals following a 1-1 draw.
Uganda will on March 1, place the winner between Morocco and Tunisia for a place in the final.
