Uganda’s only female boxer Catherine Nanziri has been eliminated from the 2021 Tokyo Olympics!
Nanziri became the first Ugandan Boxer to bow out at the on-going Tokyo Olympics after losing her round of 32 bout on Sunday.
She was defeated by Japan’s Namiki Tsukumi in the Flyweight division via a unanimous decision at the Kokugikan Arena.
Tsukumi won all three rounds with the judges’ score-cards reading 30-27, 30-27, 30-26, 30-27 and 30-27.
It was a contest that never looked like ending in any other fashion as Tsukumi dominated from start to finish.
Uganda’s hopes for a first boxing medal since 1980 now fall onto the two remaining boxers in David Ssemujju and Shadir Musa.
Ssemujju takes to the ring on Monday, July 26 against Morocco’s Nemouchi in their round of 32 bout in the Men’s middleweight category.
For Musa, he was handed a bye at the round of 32 but will be in action in the last 16.
