Peruth Chemutai booked a spot in the Women 3000m Steeplechase on Sunday, August 01.
The Uganda who holds the national record could not be denied in heat one of the race as she powered her way to a second-place finish at the Olympic stadium in Tokyo.
She crossed the line in a time of 9:12:72 and she will now be part of the final on Wednesday, August 04.
Bahrain’s Winfred Yavi won the heat in 9:10:08 while Emma Cuburn of the US came third (9:16:91) to complete the direct qualification spots.
Chemutai is hoping to make national history, if she can scoop a medal on Wednesday, as no other individual from the Pearl of Africa has ever won a medal in the 3000m Steeplechase at the Olympics.
Joshua Chetegei (Silver) and Jacob Kiplimo (Bronze) have won Uganda her only two medals at the Tokyo Olympics, so far.
