
Uganda’s middle distance runner Winnie Nanyondo qualified for the semifinals of the Women’s 1500m at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after finishing second in Round One on Monday.
Nanyondo who started in lane two of heat three posted a time of 4:02.24 to emerge second best.
Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon emerged first with a time of 4:01.40 to justify the tag of pre-race favorite.
The top six in each of the three heats and next fast six also advanced to the semis.
The Women’s 1500m semifinal will be held on Wednesday at the Olympic Stadium and Nanyondo will be aiming for her a spot in the final.
The former Commonwealth Bronze medallist is hoping to make amends for her failure in the 800m last week where she failed to reach the final.
