
Uganda’s hopes of winning a boxing medal at the 2021 Olympics were shattered on Tuesday after Shadir Musa Bwogi was eliminated at the Round 16.
Bwogi was defeated 3-1 by Georgia’s Madiev Eskerkhan in their middleweight bout.
The judges’ score-cards read 29-27, 28-28, 26-30, 26-30 & 26-30.
Bwogi who displayed a spirited fight on Tuesday had received a bye to reach the Round of 16.
On Monday, another Bomber David Ssemujju Kavuma was eliminated from the games after losing 5-0; 30-27, 30-27, 30-26, 30-27 and 30-27 to Algeria’s Younes Nemouchi in the Middleweight round of 32 bout.
The other Bomber at the Olympics, Catherine Nanziri was beaten 5-0 on Sunday by Japanese female boxer Namiki Tsukumi. Nanziri was making her debut at the games and is the first ever Ugandan female boxer to appear at the Olympics.
Uganda last won a Boxing medal at the Olympics in Moscow 1980.
